Healing From Harm

Shadow’s Eve – Happy Halloween

Mother Nature in the Northern Hemisphere starts to hibernate around this time of year. Her descent into darkness increases until the Winter Solstice and after, she will experience full hibernation until Spring.

What does she tell us, her creatures, to do? To follow her and descent into our deep rest. The cold draws us into warm dens and the darkness calls us to light fires. It is time to get cozy with ourselves and those we love.

The completion of harvest means hearty, comfort food to keep us well-nourished. What can you harvest in your world and yourself? What practices will feed you physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, socially, and environmentally?

Write them down on October 31 and do one a day starting November 1. Or create a better schedule for you. On December 21, bless the practices you want to keep until spring and burn the ones you don’t like.

People love to play with witchery this time of year, and why not? It is fun! The transformation from alchemy occurs from the embodied practices of healing your demons and rebirthing your authentic self. I discuss this more on my website, http://www.healingfromharm.com.

Another great practice during the descent into darkness and bringing light from within is buying a journal on shadow work and another on witches’ spells. The first develops a deep relationship with yourself and the second is a celebration of the work.

One of my favourite things to do right now is bask in the sun during the day and then bask in the heat of my fireplace at night. My body feels alive and embraced by the warmth of both while acknowledging the shifting of seasons and the winter journey ahead.

What do you like to do?

If you enjoy my work, I would appreciate a donation.
